My first Ever Live Reporting Experience

I’ve just done my first ever report on a live poker event and I have to say I enjoyed it thoroughly, my most enjoyable part of the experience was being part of the team that gives the information to those that are interested in what’s going on and are unable to make the journey to either play in the tournament or watch the event. I have never really spent much time away from my home but it was fun staying in a hotel, living out of a suitcase, eating out at bars and restaurants, never having to think if I have locked the front door or not.

When reporting your never stopping, your either running to the computer typing things up, running to the card-room looking for some information on a certain player, a big hand that’s developing, a players situation whether they are playing well or whether there chip stack is progressing or not. No matter what your never stopped and are always on the move, it’s quite exciting when your in the card-room and you have written the information down, you go to the computer and type it up, you go back to the card-room and another person has been eliminated.

The great thing about doing the larger events is being allowed to go in close to the tables, there are barriers around the tables and you need a press badge to get in close, it’s nice to be able to get a closer look at the players themselves and the cards they are playing, it can really help me with the way that I play and can help me to improve my game by watching some of the best players around. I really enjoyed watching one player in particular in Surindar Sunar, he never made the final but he made it to the 20’s, he was very calm at the table and it always seemed he knew every time if he was in front or behind in the hand.

The next event that I will be reporting on is at Luton, I hope I will have as much fun as I did at the last event in Newcastle. I hope the food is as good as well, the food was very nice and the staff at the Newcastle were excellent and very helpful. Also, whilst being in the press room I got to work with the people at blue square, it was a great laugh working with those guys and I am looking forward to seeing and working with them in Luton as well.
